TSP Academy

TSP Academy consists of training classes and product demonstrations throughout the year.  These events offer an opportunity for industry professionals to increase their knowledge and brush up on the latest tools available for turf management.  Many of these classes offer golf course superintendents Continuing Education credits.

Classes are held at various locations throughout the Carolinas as well as TSP's training facility in Liberty, SC.

Equipment Classes

Hydraulics

Learn basic hydraulic theory, along with hydraulic circuits and system concepts.  We will cover how to read and understand system schematics and hydraulic components for the purposes of assessment and troubleshooting.  Hands-on system testing--including basic flow meter testing--will be included, and preventative maintenance practices will also be reviewed.

Electrics

We will discuss basic electrical theory, along with electrical circuits and system concepts.  We will cover how to read and understand electrical system schematics and identify components for the purposes of assessment and troubleshooting, as well as perform hands-on testing with a volt-ohm meter.

Preventative Maintenance

This class will include discussions regarding all aspects of maintenance.  Record-keeping will be covered, as well as the use of operator and parts manuals to create an overview of common parts and best practices as it relates to general equipment maintenance.  Wall charts and manufacturer specs will also be covered.

Reel Setup

This class will provide opportunities to practice setup and maintenance of reels.  We will cover the 'dos and don'ts' of reel grinding, discuss reel components and their respective purposes, and go over the proper selection of reel and bedknife configurations.

Irrigation Classes

Irrigation Design and Installation

Learn the basics of hydraulics (flow rates and pressure loss), head layout, and placement of controllers and valves.  We will also review materials take-offs and all the components that make an irrigation system run properly.

Irrigation Troubleshooting

We will discuss the more common problems with electric irrigation systems as well as some advanced issues.  We will look at a variety of tools to help in troubleshooting including the 521 Locator, the Station Master, and volt meters.

Irrigation Controls

This is a class that will help you learn how to match the appropriate controllers to specific jobs.  We will review controller operation and features as well as ET controllers, small-scale satellite controls, full-scale central control systems, and two-wire systems.  “Smart” controllers are becoming the industry standard as water restrictions continue to elevate.

Landscape Classes

Low Voltage Lighting Installation

This class provides a look into the proper installation of low voltage (12V) lighting systems.  We will cover the “hub” system, “home run” systems, and using voltage regulators for equal voltage at installation.  We will also cover the 'dos and don’ts' of low voltage lighting.

Water Garden Installation

Our Water Garden class will cover the installation process of installing various types of ponds and pondless waterfalls.  We will also cover design principles and beneficial chemicals.

Drainage Systems

We will cover all aspects of proper drainage in this class.  We will review the hydraulics of drainage as well as different types of drainage systems.  This class will include literature on how to calculate drainage needs.

Pump Station Classes

Pumping Systems

TSP has a passion for pumping systems in our Golf Division.  The Turf Division has similar needs in pumping systems, just on a smaller basis.  Let us introduce you to pumps, how and why they work, pump curves, and proper pump installation.
